Strategic partnership for sustainable development between the University of Zurich and Makerere University Uganda
Background
Since 2008, the University of Zurich has entered into various, mostly smaller research collaborations with Makerere University Uganda. There is potential to develop contacts into a more sustainable, strategic partnership that will allow for joint research priorities and training of junior researchers. Both universities have complementary expertise and access to resources and data. By exploiting the synergies, current challenges of a global dimension can be better explored than without the partnership. Collaborative activities will pertain to i) start-up funding for joint research and teaching projects; ii) exchange and joint education of PhD students; iii) networking of different research projects; iv) supporting the maintenance of contacts at the level of University administrations and administrations to the legal and institutional frameworks; iiv) public relations; iiiv) promoting the public and politics. Global health, human rights and flight and migration have been identified as the main thematic synergies between the two institutions.
